ABOUT US

With the objective of empowering the under privileged communities in Assam especially the younger generations in rural and semi urban set ups, the Aalok Pravanjyan Welfare Society was established at Guwahati in the year 2011 as a registered society under the leadership of Sankar Gohain, a well-known journalist and entrepreneur. The society is a result of the common aspirations of a group of likeminded people who came together to realise their dream of seeing a vibrant Assam and Northeast India where youth takes the lead and enjoys their rights with self-confidence and technical and technological skills, knowledge and expertise. The society also dreams of a resurgent Assam where people in general and young people in specific are equipped with the wherewithal to face the challenges and ensure triumph over all kinds of inequality. The primary focus of the society is empowerment of youth and women from the economically weaker sections of the society. In the course of its philanthropic journey, the society has been conducting several activities such as vocational training in the mass media sector, organizing workshops and seminars for skill development in different income generating trades, publishing books authored by emerging writers of the state, conducting sports and literary competition to motivate the youths of the state, presenting awards to distinguished entrepreneurs, academicians, writers, sportsmen, social workers, and other notable achievers in diverse sectors of the state. These are some of the activities that the society has been successfully conducting over the years. In 2021, Aalok Pravanjyan Welfare Society was formally brought under the ambit of the Indian Trusts Act, 1882 for better management of its activities and fulfillment of its desired objectives.
