The Aalok Pravanjyan Award
On the momentous occasion of 2nd anniversary of the vernacular Assamese fortnightly “Aalok Pravanjyan”, the Aalok Pravanjyan Welfare Society in association with the Reporter’s Club instituted the Aalok Pravanjyan Award in 2012.
Eminent Assamese language poet and literary critic Nalinidhar Bhattacharya who won the Sahitya Akademi Award for his collection Mahat Oitijhya in 2002 was chosen to be the first recipient of the prestigious award in its inaugural edition.
A gorgeous and well attended award ceremony on the auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti was organised at the Bishnu Nirmala Trust Auditorium at Guwahati where the eminent poet was conferred with the award.
The award ceremony was attended by eminent linguist, Sahityacharya Dr Pramod Chandra Bhattacharya, linguist Jatindra Nath Borgohain, journalist Bhushan Jyoti Handique, journalist Naren Hazarika, writer and artiste Dr. Anjanjyoti Choudhury and many other prominent citizens of Assam.
The Aalok Pravanjyan Award since then has been an annual event being organised by the Aalok Pravanjyan Welfare Society. Over the course of its decade long journey, many well-known personalities who have contributed immensely towards Assam and her cause have been felicitated and awarded under this prestigious programme.
